We all Hit Dry Spells: 3 Ways to be Intimate without Sex

Image
When your sexy time hits a slump, don’t forget the other reasons you love your person. Intimacy has different meanings depending on where you are in your relationship and who you talk to. Intimacy has many forms.. A couple newly dating:  They most likely can’t keep their paws off each other, are in a state of intense lust, and are often intimate on a physical level. Do I envy that? Not with the relationship I have and where I am at in my life. A married couple with kids:  They might be able to get in a cuddle sesh here and there, a  quick massage  or the real deal, depending on their schedule and if their kid doesn’t demand to sleep in their bed until they’re in middle school… A long-time married couple:  It certainly isn't true for everyone, but the majority of couples that have been married for a long period of time do lose that  spark.   Physically intimacy  might not be a high priority for either of you. These are just a few examples, and ther...

There Are 7 Ways Of Resting: Are You Doing It Right?

Image
So, this is a little awkward to share, but it turns out that I've been resting wrong my whole entire life. Have you been, too? I've been digging up some research on the topic of rest lately, especially now since I've recently started a new full-time job that requires longer hours than I'm used to and far more caffeine consumption than is likely recommended for humans to ingest... Ahem, anyways... After carefully combing through a multitude of Google searches involving a plethora of articles, reviews, and personal accounts, I've learned that, 1) there is more than one way to rest; and, 2) the ways in which we think or hope that we're resting are, quite frankly, insufficient at actually getting the job done right. Ideally, healthy humans should be sleeping six and a half to eight hours a night, typically aiming for seven. But, come on, who actually gets that amount on a regular basis? Sleep can only do so much. Sometimes, resting requi...

What Marathons Teach Us About Life

Image
The marathon is a harsh teacher, dishing out those vital life lessons we still need to learn. Your result tells a story. Everything—your training, race strategy,  pain tolerance , the weather—distils into that neon number ticking away as you cross the finish line. For some, it signifies absolute joy, others disappointment. Regardless, a curious phenomenon kicks in shortly after completing a marathon. Everyone second guesses their result, believing their posted time does not accurately reflect their true potential. If only I had… As for me, I got the time I deserved, melting across the line in 03 hours 40 minutes 08 seconds, good for 812th overall (just off the podium), 100th for my age group, and a respectable third among the Dustins. WTF? That’s fantastic. It is not.  For background, last December, a friend asked me to race the 2022 BMO Vancouver Marathon. Barely running and twelve years out from my last one, I stupidly agreed. Further, I then ignored Haruki Mura...

How to overcome the fear of being alone

Image
If you’re anything like me and grew up with siblings, you always had someone around to spend time with. You were rarely alone, and even the thought of doing something by yourself is out of this world. While some people may fear loneliness in a  romantic sense , I’ve always feared it on a different level. Growing up, I always had a sister that would tag along for everything. Errands, ice cream, and even a simple drive to nowhere. In fact, I was the person that refused to go somewhere if I didn’t have company. I know, it’s a bit extreme. But ever since we’ve entered adulthood, I’ve noticed my friends, my sister, and even I don’t have as much free time anymore. I don’t always have someone to run errands or get ice cream with. And let me tell you, that’s been hard. But, I’m slowly overcoming it. And you can too. How to overcome your fear of being alone The best way to overcome a fear, in my opinion, is  exposure therapy . The best way to overcome your fear of being alone is by...

Love Languages and What They Can Do For Your Relationship

Image
There’s a good chance you and your spouse don’t know what your love languages are and they may be the same, but chances are they are different. Having different love languages is not a bad thing, it can be a great thing if you know how to appease each other's love language, support them, and utilize them every day in your relationship. What Are the Five Love Languages? Words of affirmation:  If this is your primary love language, you are someone who enjoys getting complimented, whether written or spoken. If you want to make your partner’s day bright, a simple text message telling them how much you appreciate them, or how proud you are of them, will do it. Quality time: If this is your primary love language you crave affection through your partner's undivided attention. Making an effort to spend uninterrupted time with your partner is the way to feed this love language. Physical touch: If this is your love language then you want to receive a physical touch from your partne...
